Imagine yourself dreaming so sweetly and still headlong into that sleeping journey when you suddenly get jolted to unwelcome reality because of that noisy alarm. Well, in the case of Yamaha TSX-140 iPod Audio users, that won’t be the case. Yamaha’s latest has this for its claim to fame: it will help you wake up pleasantly and gradually.
We’ve got to give it to Yamaha to really up the step a bit by considering the actual science of sleeping and waking up. The IntelliAlarm feature of this particular iPod docking system makes it super handy for people who hate being nagged by noisy alarm clocks but will still want to make it in time for work. Yamaha developers apparently describe waking up as a gentle, relaxing and refreshing experience because of this new gadget.
Yamaha being Yamaha, you are most assured of good sound quality, although it is not the official carried item in the realm of iPod docking devices. It has 3.5 inch reflex speakers and digital amplifiers that will always leave you feeling like you have just listened to a private and special concert for one. The extended stereo is a bit of a bonus too, for your waking moments.
The singular alarm clock is a thing of the past these days; it’s now a battle of the audio systems. This particular audio system from Yamaha beings waking you up by adjusting the sound frequencies gradually. It starts waking you up by removing the unpleasant high frequencies at the beginning, and then gradually reintroduces them when you are already physically ready to hear them. That removes the “blaring” sound effect we usually get in normal alarm clocks. And yes, like most audio systems in the market today, it will allow you to customize your morning wakeup calls with any particular sound of your choice.
Its LED lighting is also just as smart, since it was programmed to naturally adjust to your lighting conditions wherever you fancy to place it. And this cannot be called a gadget if not for its connectivity. It has USB connectivity. On top of that, it can play WMA and MP3 formats. If you do not like your song choices for the day, you can try tuning in to AM and FM, which is also allowed by this new music goodie.
The design is so-so, a little hyped up in the press release. To be fairly honest, I’ve seen better and cuter looking gadgets. Visually, it’s passable, sleek and pretty much blends with everything else in a tech geek’s room. Non-obtrusive in design and non-obtrusive in its function. The only extraordinary feat of the appearance would be the flexible LED light feature, but even that is not so unique compared to other gizmos.
Pretty pricey for $399. But do compare that to not getting disrupted so dramatically while you wade off in dreamland each night To think you can actually use it night and day, that’s not so bad a price to pay. Waking up as pleasantly as possible each morning is quite worth giving it a try.
