LCD TV: Samsung Series 5 or Samsung Series 6?

Headlines, Television February 4th, 2009

I’ve been skeptical whether to get a Samsung Series 5 (LA32A550) 32″ LCD TV or Samsung Series 6 (LA32A650) 32″ LCD TV. Their prices are not-slightly different from each other but both of them had the same screen size, resolution, dynamic contrast ratio, viewing angle, and more specs. Both of them are full HD TVs.

The only difference that I found if you compare both specifications were: the Response Time, DNIe, HDMI ports, casing, operation power consumption and the SRP.

Series 6 has DNIe Pro, has a response time of 6ms, with 3 HDMI ports, Rose Black Casing, an operation power consumption of 200W and its SRP is PHP 59,999. Whereas, Series 5 has only DNIe+, response time of 5ms, 2 HDMI ports, All Black Casing, a power consumption of 180W and its SRP is PHP 49,999.

I bet your next question is the diferrence of DNIe+ and DNIe Pro. After a series of research, I found out that the Pro features will allow you to access pictures, mp3s and videos with these specifications. (Thanks to this thread in CNET forums)

So who cares if you can’t browse those media files with those specs. You’ll save PHP 10,000.00 if you go for Series 5 with all the same features. Series 6 is just slightly different with those not-so-obvious enhancements.

But if you want to have a newer version of Samsung LCD TV, just add 10,000 Pesos and go home with your Series 6!

I hope this post helps to those who are comparing the Samsung Series 5 and Series 6 LCD TVs.
